TPP Program Description
Long Beach City College is a two-year community college that encompasses state of the art, technology-rich learning environments, a broad range of academic and career technical instructional programs, strong community partnerships, and economic and workforce development initiatives that prepare students to be successful in the 21st century. Long Beach City College is committed to providing equitable student learning and achievement, academic excellence, and workforce development by delivering high quality educational programs and support services to our diverse communities.
The Reading & Teacher Preparation Department's mission is to provide high-quality, authentic, and contextualized learning experiences for students. Our teacher preparation program will help develop students who demonstrate professional knowledge and interdisciplinary subject-matter expertise. Teacher candidates will be prepared to utilize evidence-based practices, including equitable and inclusive teaching practices to serve in diverse communities, and to develop a strong sense of agency to serve as advocates for students. The teacher preparation program, Tomorrow's Teachers, offers an AD-T in Elementary Teacher Education which includes early fieldwork experience in local TK-12 classrooms and hands-on courses. Specialized counselors work with our School to advise students on course scheduling and transfer. LBCC's Future Teachers Club is an active, award-winning professional club that works with Tomorrow's Teachers to offer engaging student workshops, provide guest speakers, and host campus-wide events as well as to serve the community on projects.
